March has been a strange month for us all but we hope you are all staying safe at home with a big stack of books for company. Our book club theme was 'books about siblings' and there were so many great titles to choose from. Here are a few of the books our little community picked up...

We’re reading books about siblings for the @bloggersbookshelf Book Club this month. My Sister, the Serial Killer is about Korede and her difficult relationship with her sister Ayoola, who, as well as being more beautiful and popular than Korede, also happens to have a habit of killing her boyfriends. This is an interesting premise and a fast read, easy to devour in just a few hours. My choice for our March book club was The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo. It took me a little longer to read than I had expected but I really enjoyed the multigenerational aspect. "Be comforted, dear soul! There is always light behind the clouds." • I picked Little Women as my March (lol) @bloggersbookshelf book club pick a while back. Having seen the new Greta Gerwig adaptation and fallen back in love with the story again, I wanted to see whether the book itself held up. It's been surreal re-rading it in this strange and isolating world we live in right now, but the quote above really does sum it all up really doesn't it. We, like the March sisters, are living in extraordinary times but there will always be light and love and kindness no matter what. And more importantly the good days will almost certainly outnumber the bad. Hope you're all staying safe and healthy my friends 💕

My pick for the Blogger’s Bookshelf Book Club in February was I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn. The prompt was ‘a book with a tree or leaf on the cover’, and the cover for this is absolutely breathtaking, featuring a couple strolling amongst cherry blossom trees at full bloom. And the story itself is equally as great. I used to say ‘YA isn’t really my bag’, but I’ve found myself really enjoying the genre recently and that’s a-okay with me! Kimi Nakamura is on the cusp of going to art school and her Mum is thrilled about it. Kimi, however, is obsessed with creating Kimi Originals, bold, art-like outfits that give her friends strength. After an explosive argument with her Mum, Kimi receives a letter from her estranged grandparents, inviting her to spend spring break in Kyoto with them. The story really begins in Japan and Kuhn’s first-person narratives of Kimi really put the gears in motion. She captures the ambience of Japan incredibly well, as well as the struggles that second- and third-generation immigrant kids go through. This month’s prompt for the @bloggersbookshelf Book Club is a book with a tree or leaf on the cover and I chose the wonderful Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson. Truly Devious follows wannabe detective and true crime podcast enthusiast Stevie Bell, who applies to the infamous Ellingham Academy in hopes of solving the cold case of the triple murder that happened there in 1936, but after a tragic accident in her first term at the school, Stevie finds that may not be the only case that needs her investigative skills. I enjoyed this one so much, I’ve already started reading the next book and ordered the third. If you’re a fan of cosy murder mysteries with an added dash of teen drama, I highly recommend Truly Devious. Also, one of Stevie’s friends is a writer and I relate way too hard to the way he talks about writing. Or rather, the way he will do absolutely anything to avoid talking about writing. Or doing any writing. Went for tropical trees and leaves for this month's @bloggersbookshelf #bookclub pick! 🌴🍃📚 • Not sure how I felt about Ponti. It is wonderfully literary, the female characters feel complex, and I actually enjoy how unlikable they are at certain points in the story. But I can't help but feel like something was missing? Maybe my expectations were too high after reading the hype? 🤷‍♀️ • No matter this book has is now the fifth I've finished this year, which means I'm oddly speeding through my TBR for once (probably the only good thing about my Tube commutes 😅)

When I was deciding which of our book club prompt ideas we should use for 2020's list I knew revisiting the work of authors we already love would be perfect for January! My pick for the month was After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid, whose novels The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones & The Six and Maybe In Another Life I thoroughly enjoyed reading last year. After I Do did not disappoint and was another great read; my first 5 star find of 2020! 🌟 It would also be a fantastic choice for our November prompt 'food on the cover'. - Erin @sawyerandscout . . . Are you hoping to read more this year? I've set my target at 70 books this year and, to contribute towards that, have joined the @bloggersbookshelf Book Club. This month's prompt was A Book by An Author You Love, and I chose Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. My brother and I loved this trilogy growing up and after thoroughly enjoying the BBC adaptation, I knew I wanted to reread it. The Toll by Neal Shusterman

"Shusterman has an incredible way of making you think about life, morality, death and the meaning of it all. He has a way with words and while reading The Toll I often, once again, found myself writing quotes down, or taking a photo of the page to come back to later. There are also laugh out loud moments and moments where you have to stop reading to just pause and take it in. Not many authors can do that. While I didn’t love The Toll as much as the previous two, it’s still a fantastic book and I highly recommend reading this series (and pretty much anything that Neal Shusterman writes)." - Anjali

Our first prompt of the year for the @bloggersbookshelf Book Club was to read a book by an author you love, which was the perfect opportunity for me to finally read Paradise Lodge by Nina Stibbe because I’ve never met a book of hers that I didn’t love! Paradise Lodge is the second of Stibbe’s novels about Lizzie Vogel, and in this instalment Lizzie is 15 and in danger of being taken out of her O Level classes because she is spending too much time at the old people’s home where she has landed her first job, and not enough time at school.
